In-home Euthanasia

Pet euthanasia is an emotional and difficult decision that many pet owners face. It involves ending a pet’s life in a humane and painless way when they are suffering from a terminal illness, old age or injury, and their quality of life has significantly decreased.

While the decision to put a pet to sleep can be heart-wrenching, it is typically done out of love and compassion for the animal. It is important to remember that pets cannot communicate their pain or discomfort in the same way that humans can, which makes it essential for pet owners to monitor their pet's behaviour and physical condition regularly.

If your pet is suffering from a severe illness or injury, there may come a time when veterinary treatment is no longer feasible, and the humane option is euthanasia. Deciding to put a pet to sleep is never an easy decision, and it’s perfectly normal to feel overwhelmed with sadness and grief. Read more here about when to know when the right time is.

One of our dedicated vets will visit your home to perform your pet’s peaceful euthanasia. Sedation prior to the procedure is available at no additional cost and is highly recommended to help make your pet’s end of life journey as gentle and stress-free as possible.

If you have any special requests for your pet’s euthanasia, you can include this information when making your booking, or discuss with your vet when they arrive at your home. At every stage of the process, we can take as much time as you need.

After your pet has passed, we allow you to have some time with them. If you would like them to be buried at home, we can assist you with this process. If they are being picked up by a local crematorium, we will leave them in your care until they arrive.

Pet euthanasia is never an easy decision to make, but it can be the best option for your furry friend in certain situations. Remember that you are not alone and have the support of friends, family, and professionals in the veterinary field to help you through this difficult time. Ultimately, the most important thing is that your pet is no longer suffering, and you have given them the peace they deserve.

Losing a pet can be a very difficult and emotional experience, and it's important to take the time to properly cope with your feelings of grief and loss. Here are some tips for coping with pet loss:

  1. Allow yourself to grieve: It's natural to feel sad, angry, or even numb after losing a pet. Don't be afraid to express your emotions and take the time you need to grieve.

  2. Seek support: Talk to friends, family members, or support groups who understand what you're going through. It can be helpful to share stories and memories of your pet with others who loved them too.

  3. Create a memorial: Consider creating a special tribute to your pet, whether it's a scrapbook, photo album, or memorial garden. This can help you remember and honor your pet's life.

  4. Take care of yourself: It's important to prioritize self-care during the grieving process. Eat well, exercise, and get plenty of rest. Engaging in activities you enjoy can also help distract from your loss.

  5. Know when to seek professional help: If you're struggling to cope with your pet loss or are experiencing symptoms of depression or anxiety, it may be helpful to seek professional help from a counsellor or therapist.
